Resistant starch is starch that does not get digested in the stomach or small intestine and enters the large intestine intact. Resistant starch plays a huge part in health and weight loss. A large proportion of the trillions of bacteria that live in our large intestine favour resistant starch as a food source. In return these bacteria produce short chain fatty acids, in particular a fatty acid called butyrate.
Butyrate is fuel for the cells that line the intestine. When these cells are healthy our gut lining functions as it should and our overall health improves. This should tell you something about how important this overlooked substance is!

We should all be focusing on resistant starch in our diets and trying to consume more of it than we do. Eating potatoes, especially cooked and then cooled potatoes, is one of the easiest ways to do this. There is also a chapter on Potato Starch, which is a good prebiotic due to its high levels of resistant starch.
If you are going to use potato starch, it needs to be raw and unmodified for you to see the benefits.

Instead, Taylor ate as many potatoes as he needed to satisfy his hunger. To be fair, potatoes pack lots of nutritional perks when prepared properly. Potatoes are also rich in potassium and vitamin C. And certain kinds, like sweet potatoes, are also loaded with vitamin A. But is there something special about the spuds that can make the pounds melt away?
Not exactly. Taylor's experiment doesn't prove that a bucket of spuds is the key to weight loss. Any diet that puts you in a caloric deficit will help you lose weight, says Dr.
Is the Potato Diet Safe?
So yes, you could eat just Twinkies, or pizza like this guy , or pretty much anything else, and you could drop pounds if you are burning more calories than you are taking in. To make sure he was doing everything safely, Taylor regularly checked in with a doctor and a registered dietician throughout his challenge.
Throughout his journey, he noticed certain improvements in his health along with his weight loss. This can tank your energy levels, weaken your immune system, make you feel hungry, and mess with your concentration. Plus, muscle is important for your metabolic health and helps you function properly as you get older—things like walking up the stairs and even carrying your groceries get a lot harder when your muscles get weaker.
A vegan diet is very restrictive and a ketogenic diet is very restrictive, but a potato diet is one of the most restrictive diets you could ever do. Now, for Taylor, it worked. And to be fair, he says he feels great.
Potato Hack – Secret Weapon To Fast Effective Weight Loss
Could you try the potato diet to lose weight? A lot of people throughout history have proven that potatoes can sustain human life for months or even years at a time. My grandfather was from Ireland, and I still need to make a trip to this beautiful country.
I was pretty strict and ate cold potatoes boiled then cooled my first time, but the second time I expanded the recipes and ate baked potatoes, baked fries, etc. My current favorite potato diet recipe is making baked potatoes and letting them cool. Then I chop up into fries and broil in the oven for 15 minutes. I regained a little bit of weight after resuming with normal eating, but not as much as when I go low carb. Kevin Smith followed an all potato diet and lost close to 50 pounds in less than 6 months.

Kevin desperately needed to lose 50 pounds after he had a massive heart attack in early Tim Steele, the author, follows my high carb diet plan when not doing day potato hacks. You actually want it bland for a reason. Before I talk about how I like to prepare my potatoes, I need to discuss how to maximize resistant starch.

The biggest increase in resistant starch happens when a potato has been cooked then cooled cooled down for many hours in the fridge, ideally overnight. What I like to do is to steam 3 pounds of potatoes the day before, put in a plastic container in the fridge overnight, then reheat and eat the following day. I like to find ones that are slightly larger than a golf ball and steam for 15 minutes.
